Water Softening Plant

Water hardness is the most accurate and least acceptable impurities found in water. Calcium, magnesium and other different concentration are responsible for water hardness scale that deposits in pipelines, boiler tubes, circulating system, condensers jackets and cooking utensils.

Water softening plant is meant to remove water hardness in which impurities like magnesium (Mg2+) and calcium(Ca2+) ions are exchanged with sodium ions (Na2+). These impurity ions are also known as total hardness, which is associated with alkalinity, which ultimately gives scale formation. Sodium ions do not react badly with soap or precipitate in pipelines, thus eliminating day-to-day problems related to hard water.

Waterman Engineers offers state-of-art design multi-port valve, which gives compact design. Softening plant is available in Manual as well as PLC based control system with fully automatic option. It is available in FRP/MSRL & SS models.

Process Flow

  • Step 1

The water flows through a bed of ion exchange resin covered with sodium ions. When the water runs through a bed of sodium ion, the calcium and magnesium ions swap with sodium ions. Eventually when the sodium resin gets exhausted, the resin will contain calcium and magnesium ions and no sodium ions. At this time the water softening process gets stopped.

  • Step 2

Once the resin gets exhausted, it is time to regenerate it with sodium chloride or brine solution. Regeneration process is soaking resin in a stream of sodium ions. After regeneration of resin, Step 1 gets repeated where strong brine solution once again displaces calcium and magnesium with sodium ions.

If the brine solution is passed from the bottom of the resin and service flow is from top then water softening process is called Up flow softener. Reverse to this, where brine solution is passed from top and service flow is from bottom then the process is called down flow softener. Water softener that runs up to the harness slip of 5 ppm as CaCO3 in treated water is called Industrial Zero hardness.

The bottle neck cover and label are shrunk and stick to it when they are passed through hot tunnel.

  • Final packaging

The bottles are finally packed manually in the cartons.
